About El Pilon Wines

It was actually my father, Chuck Slonaker, who got me interested in making wines at home. He made a few varieties, but I was never old enough to try them. I have heard that his Prickly Pear wine was incredible.
I started making wine in the Summer of 2003 with a kit I got while on vacation in Canada. While that was working I got a book, "Joy of Home Winemaking," by Terry Garey. That got me started with making fruit wines and, from that point on, I've been hooked.
Kim started making wines Summer 2005 and has produced some excellent meads, Ports, and a Cyser.
To date, we have made over a dozen different types of wines to include:
Blackberry Melomel Port
Dark Cherry
"Arándano de Miguel," a blueberry wine dedicated to my dad.
Peach
Pear
fresh-picked Washington Apple
a Plum and a Peach Liqueur
and many, many more.
The dapper young fellow on our web page and on our labels is actually my grandfather, James E. Wilburn. The picture was taken in 1925 when he was 19 years old. Some of the older labels on our wines will show the actual, restored photograph while some of the new labels will show this altered version holding the wine glass. I'm sure he would've approved.
